A Peek at our Learning

Language Arts-In Language Arts we have been working on writing sentences with descriptive words.  We made some snowmen out of modelling clay and then wrote some sentences that included descriptive words.  "My snowman has a long, pointy, bright orange, carrot nose."  First, we brainstormed many snowman descriptive words so that we had a word bank to use while writing.  Next week, we will be using our editing checklists to edit our snowman writing.

We have also spent time coming up with some learning goals to work toward in the new year.   We look forward to sharing them with you in our Grade One Assembly that will be shared with you virtually at the end of the month.  Stay tuned:)

Math-In Math, we continue to solidify our addition facts to 20 using our mental math strategies.  We have spent time getting to know our friendly doubles.  Double's aren't trouble for us in Room 21💕. Ask your child to recite his/her friendly doubles to 20 for you:)

 January 17th-21st

We have been talking about our goals for the new year.  We are looking at goals to achieve in different areas such as reading, writing, math, classroom behaviour goals and personal goals too!!!

We are exploding with goals and we look forward to sharing them you soon in our virtual grade one assembly that will be sent to you at the end of the month.

In Language Arts, we are challenging to write 3-4 sentences that have at least 2 describing word in each sentence.  We have also practicing writing sentences with connecting ideas and using the words "because" and "also" in our written work.

In math, we have started to talk about subtraction vocabulary such as less than, take away and minus.  We will be starting to practice subtraction problems and learn some strategies to help us including using counters and pictures.

We will continue to solidify our understanding of adding numbers together and use various strategies such as adding with doubles, adding one and two more, using the zero rule, using a using a number line to count up or counting up in our head and using our fingers.
