Classroom Updates

Wednesday September 29th is Orange Shirt Day at Le Roi Daniels School.  Students can wear their orange shirt along with casual bottoms to school to recognize Truth and Reconciliation Day to honour the lost children and survivors of residential schools, their families and communities. There is no school on Thursday September 30th and we will see students back at school on Friday October 1st😀

Thank you for your support.

We have started working with word families along with some sight words.  Please make sure that you access the word lists on the homepage and start working on these words with your child.  You can start with sight word list one and move through each list as your child is able to recognize the words.  I suggest working with about five or six words per week on word list one to start.

In class, we have been working with the 'at' word family.  We had fun making some Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat hats to help us learn some 'at' rhyming words.

We also had fun making some bats and coming up with as many 'at' words as we could.

Classroom  Reminders

We will have our Terry Fox Run on Thursday September 23rd.  Bring your donation anytime this week if you haven't already.  We will run at 10:30 rain or shine so please send appropriate outdoor clothing for your child.

Thank you for your support 💕

We are thrilled and excited that our school has been adopted by Chapters Chinook! From September 13th to October 3rd, this store is going to fundraise on our behalf through donations done directly at the Chapters Chinook location. We’re also going to be raising funds to support our library through the direct fundraising page, located below. Please spread the work by sharing this link with family and friends.

Our school is going to receive every dollar raised to support our library and receive an additional 30% discount off books when we shop at Indigo & Chapters program donations. These funds will go long way to bringing more diverse and inclusive picture books to our classrooms.

Please help us by showing your support for our library and our school community! We look forward to surprising the staff and children at Le Roi Daniels School with all the new library books this year!  Thank you for your continued support.

Thank you!

 September 12th 💜

I hope that everyone had a great weekend.  I have posted the first week of homework on the homework page for you to access.  Please start working with the words of the week with your child.  We will have our first spelling test this Friday.  We are working with the 'at' word family and starting to read and write a few small sight words.  I will send home your child's homework folder on Monday.  Please look at the RAZ Kids reading information and get started with reading online today.  Each child has a RAZ Kids reading card glued into the front page of their homework book along with a reading strategy list and a Mathletics card.  Mathletics will be assigned as part of the homework in the future so you will need your child's username and password.  Students should read for 20 minutes each day.  As I get to know the students more and the level that they are reading at, I will be personalizing the reading levels.  For now, just start reading through each level and answering the comprehension questions.  It is great practice.  Please see the word lists under the quick links and get started with list number one and work on a few words each week with your child.
Have a wonderful week and don't hesitate to email me with any questions you may have.

Thank you for your support😃

 Welcome To Grade One💕

It will be an amazing year!!!

Please remember to send your child's water bottle to school daily as we only use the fountains to refill our water bottles and not to drink out of.
Thank you and I look forward to seeing you on our Google Meet this Thursday at 6:30.
Have a great week.

We had a wonderful first day in Grade One!!!  It was busy and we are spending some time getting to know one another and learning the expected behaviours at school and in our classroom.  I am really excited to get to know all of the students more and more.

Just a note to let you know that we have time for a quick snack each morning.  Students should bring something easy to eat at this time such as a granola bar or a cheese stick.  Students have a longer period to eat at lunch after outside play.

Also, we will keep one pair of black indoor shoes (labelled with the child's name)  at school and students can come back and forth in their outdoor shoes.  You can also send in a pair of  gym shoes that can be stored at school for the year.  Please label the shoes with your child's name.

Thank you so much for your cooperation.  I can't wait to get to know everyone more throughout the shcool year.

Please email me at anytime if you have any questions or concerns.  My email is jlthomson@cbe.ab.ca
