We continue to build and strengthen our addition skills and are currently working toward mastery of adding numbers to 10.  By the end of grade one we will be using a variety of strategies to add numbers to 20 quickly and efficiently.  This week we practiced using the number line strategy to find our solutions.

Ask your child about our Taste Test in Science😄

Have a wonderful week, and please don't hesitate to call or email at anytime with questions or concerns.

Numbers! Numbers! Numbers!

Look at how good we are getting at counting to 100!!  We have been working with the 100 chart to find number patterns and we had fun putting number puzzles back together😉

We have also been working on our addition strategies to solve addition facts up to 15.  We are working on mastering the zero rule, adding one more to a number, friends of ten and adding two.

Our number representation skills are growing.  We have started showing larger numbers in different ways including tallies, dice, number line, ten frames, pictures and equations.

I look forward to meeting with you for virtual parent teacher conferences 💜

 Remembrance Day

We have been learning about the significance of the poppy and what it symbolizes.  Students have learned why we wear a poppy on Remembrance Day and the importance behind it.  We were so lucky to have a very special guest come speak to us, Captain Tim Boettcher.  His presentation was amazing and we got to learn about his role with the  Royal Canadian Air Force. He loved the card and letters from us and he says, "Thank you very much".

Have a good long weekend and I will see you all on Monday💕

The circle is viewed by the Indigenous as the primary influence of the world.  In the process of how life evolves, how the natural world grows, works together and how all things are connected.  In our study of belonging, we have created a belonging circle to represent our interconnectivity and our connection with the natural world as believed and shared with us by Indigenous people.  Ask your child to point out his/her rock of belonging and to tell you about groups he/she belongs to.

Numeracy

We have continued to learn more strategies for adding numbers such as friends of 10, adding zero and adding 1 to a given number.  We also use subitizing dots to create equations and talk about different ways we can see the dots.  How many different equations can you make with this dot arrangement?

We are counting to 100 in different ways including counting by 5's and finding patterns on the 100 chart.
Make sure you practice your counting patterns!!!

Make sure to ask your child about our special guest that is coming to visit us on Tuesday afternoon 💕
